The new official tweet button added to WordPress.com
August 13, 2010 12 Comments
It was only yesterday that Twitter announced the launch of their official Tweet button and so sooner hd they done so than WordPress.com followed with an announcement that the new tweet button was now included as an option for all blogs on WordPress.com. So for all of you who have a blog on WordPress, here is an how-to enable the official Tweet button to all of your posts.
Go to your blogs Dashboard and from the Appearance list in your sidebar, click on Extras.
The Tweet button Extra has been added to the Extras list. Simply tick the box next to it and then click on Update Extras.
The new Tweet button will now have been added to all of your posts including any posts made in the past. NOTE. It will not appear on your Home page if you currently show snippets of each post on there, it only appears at the bottom of each full post. This is because your readers will only be expected to tweet an individual post after they have read the entire post. This new Tweet button is for your readers to make use of and not yourself. If you wish to send a Tweet yourself every time you publish a post, then you need to enable the Publicize to Twitter from your WordPress.com dashboard.
To do this, go to your blogs dashboard, and click on My Blogs from the Dashboard sidebar.
Under Publicize you will see three boxes, one for Facebook, one for Yahoo and also one for Twitter. Tick the Twitter box.
You will be asked to authorise WordPress.com with your Twitter account. Once you have done that, every time you publish a post to your WordPress.com blog in the future, a notification will be sent to Twitter.
TG NOTE! Since writing this blog post, WordPress have moved the Tweet button to Dashboard, Settings and then Sharing. Sorry for the incorrect instructions!
